Fixing the Levee at Lake Pontchartrain
After Hurricane Katrina had passed the City of New Orleans rejoiced and Christians thanked their God for answering their prayers and saving the city. It was as if there was an intervention from the Lord. I had asked a Christian who was preaching to anyone who would listen at a local Starbucks, telling of how he was saved from his prior life of wife beating, drugs and theft; if he thought that all the prayers had saved the city. He said there is no doubt God gave the people of New Orleans a second chance.
At the same time however the weakened levee was about to break in more than one place and the Lake had filled up from the runoff. Many Islamic Fundamentalists in many Middle Eastern Nations had prayed to sink the city via the mighty Hurricane katrina from Katrinastan and they said the Hurricane was Allahs wrath. They were dismayed that it did not kill more people and do more damage. Then as if a battle of whose God is the biggest; My God is bigger than your God syndrome the levee broke and began to make the worlds largest bowl of soup.
It will now take more than a God to fix the problem; it will take human ingenuity and human intent. It will take brainpower and teamwork. It will take the kind of miracle that only America and her citizens with all the strength of character they can muster and It will take the United States Army Corp of Engineers.
I propose working together as a team we collect barges in Lake Pontchartrain and float them over to the breach and sink them to form a dam between the levee breaks. We lay the first one on its side resting along the strongest levee structure of the break, which is still standing, then another resting against it and then another resting against the far side. One Hundred and fifty yards of barges stacked on their sides, like fallen dominos turned on their sides. We then drop the giant sand bags from the Chinook between the layered sunken sideways barges to fill in the gaps. Once this is complete we, the Army Corp of Engineers can start the long process of draining the New Orleans Soup Bowl.
